Mike O'Connor (PhD) is a computer scientist and lead architect at the Intangible Realities Laboratory, a joint venture between the departments of chemistry and computer science at the University of Bristol, UK. Mike graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013 with a first-class MEng in Mathematics and Computer Science. He completed a PhD in 2019 at the University of Bristol, UK, with supervisors David Glowacki and Simon McIntosh-Smith. During his PhD, he developed a virtual reality platform, Narupa, for interactive molecular simulation, with applications ranging from basic science research to pharmaceutical drug and nanomachine design. Mike is currently continuing to develop Narupa, leading an eclectic team of researchers and software developers to design the pharmaceutical design tools of the future. Mike is a resident of the Pervasive Media Studio, in Bristol, U.K, a community of digital artists, engineers and researchers. He is also one of the developers of the multi-award winning Sci-Art collaborative project 'danceroom Spectroscopy' (dS), an interactive molecular dynamics simulation, which has been touring internationally over recent years as both a contemporary dance performance and a scientific outreach and educational installation.
