Virtual reality's resurgence has been driven by its potential in gaming and entertainment. However there's an increasing body of evidence on the benefits of VR to improve the delivery of health innovations. The potential uses for training and simulation are clear, however the biggest impact is its potential role in the delivery of mental health interventions in the fields of anxiety disorders (including post traumatic stress and phobias), autism spectrum disorders, and depression. Charles Nduka, a surgeon and technologist led the world's largest biometric multimodal study measuring emotional responses in visitors at London's Science Museum. He will share insights from the data, and demonstrate the potential of biometric storyboarding to uncover new insights.

Takeaway

Attendees will learn the importance of "what we measure we can improve". Without an ability to measure how the user is feeling, the potential for immersive technologies will be limited whether in healthcare, content creation, training or education.

Intended Audience

This talk is aimed at both generalists and those with an interest in healthcare.
